Delivering truly affordable housing for key workers within a mile of their place of work and a rent equivalent to one third of salary.

Cities that can't house the people who support them.

New residential apartment blocks.

There are more than 8 million key workers in England and Wales and in most cases, they cannot afford to live in the communities they serve. Even the highest-paid key workers struggle to find housing near the city centres where they work.

Key workers are arguably the hardest working taxpayers in society, yet many face soul-destroying commutes of up to 60 miles or 3 hours every single day, simply to reach the communities they protect, heal, and teach.

The Key was founded to reverse this outward migration, applying Environmental, Social & Governance principles to deliver affordable housing within a mile of where key workers are needed most.

"London alone requires £300 billion of investment to house our essential workers."

The scale of the challenge

Guided by Environmental, Social & Governance principles

A collective of accomplished real estate professionals, operating under ESG principles, ensuring every decision serves people, communities, and long-term sustainability.

Environmental

Reducing urban sprawl and long commutes, lowering the carbon footprint of key worker transport across London and reversing outward migration.

Social

Keeping vital workers in the communities they serve, strengthening the social fabric of our cities, and improving quality of life for the people who depend on them.

Governance

Transparent, audited, and legally structured, with institutional backing from KPMG and Eversheds Sutherland ensuring rigorous oversight.

Two ways to take part

Key workers find and apply for affordable homes near their place of work. Institutional stakeholders fund and deliver those homes through The Platform.
